General Manager Mike Kelly announced today that the club’s 2014 first-round selection, Matthew Hotchkiss, has committed to the team. The Storm selected Hotchkiss 20th overall in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.

“We are pleased that Matthew has agreed to continue his academic and hockey development as a member of the Guelph Storm,” said Kelly. “Matthew is an outstanding student and outstanding hockey prospect who will be a huge part of our future success.  We welcome Matthew and his family to the Storm family.”

Hotchkiss recently attended the National Under-17 Development Camp in Calgary, and joins the Storm having played his Minor Midget season with the Whitby Wildcats.  Hotchkiss posted 27 goals and 53 points in 35 games last season with the Wildcats, and added five points in five games at the prestigious season-ending OHL Cup in March.

The 6’1″, 192-pound centre was also a member of the victorious Team OMHA White at the OHL Gold Cup in May.

Most recently, Matthew was selected on Canada’s U17 Black team which will participate at the  World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in Sarnia-Lambton, Ont on November 2-8.
