Kitchener Rangers General Manger Murray Hiebert announced today that goaltender Izzy Benigno has committed to the team and has signed an Ontario Hockey League standard player agreement. Benigno was the Rangers’ 11th round pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection.
He is described by Rangers scouts as a very agile goalie, with good athleticism. Benigno backstopped the Toronto Young Nationals to a Great Toronto Hockey League championship title in 2013-14, posting a 1.88 goals against average in 14 regular season games played. He led the team to the All Ontario (OHF) Midget championship, defeating the Ottawa Senators in the gold medal game and advancing his team to the Telus Cup. Benigno appeared in six games at the 2014 Telus Cup, helping the Nationals to a fourth place finish.
